Description

AQUACEL Ag+ is a sterile primary Hydrofiber wound dressing range from ConvaTec designed for hard-to-heal wounds and other acute or chronic wounds where exudate, infection, and biofilm are management concerns. The range includes AQUACEL Ag+ Extra for flat wound surfaces and AQUACEL Ag+ Ribbon for cavity or deep wounds.

The dressing is made from sodium carboxymethylcellulose Hydrofiber technology combined with Ag+ antibiofilm components. AQUACEL Ag+ Extra is a two-layer stitch-bonded dressing containing ionic silver together with EDTA and a surfactant component. When in contact with wound fluid, the material forms a cohesive gel that conforms closely to the wound bed. This helps maintain a moist wound-healing environment while absorbing and retaining exudate, debris, microorganisms, and disrupted biofilm. It may also support autolytic debridement.

Clinical use

This dressing range is intended for use on wounds such as venous, arterial, or mixed aetiology leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers or injuries, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, and malignant wounds. AQUACEL Ag+ Extra may also be used for partial-thickness burns. AQUACEL Ag+ Ribbon is intended for cavity, tunneled, sinus, tracking, or undermined wounds.

Application notes

AQUACEL Ag+ is used as a primary dressing and is generally covered with a secondary dressing. Dry wounds may be pre-moistened with sterile saline before application. For cavity wounds, the ribbon format should be placed lightly into the wound space rather than tightly packed.
