BD Sharps Collectors are a branded range of containers designed for the safe segregation, containment, and disposal of sharps and related clinical waste in healthcare environments. The portfolio is used across hospitals, clinics, laboratories, patient rooms, and phlebotomy areas, with models tailored to different waste streams including sharps and infectious waste, non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste, trace chemotherapy waste, and RCRA hazardous waste.
Product Range
The BD Sharps Collector portfolio includes PGII sharps collectors, chemotherapy sharps collectors, patient room sharps collectors, pharmaceutical sharps collectors, RCRA hazardous waste collectors, large and extra-large sharps collectors, multiuse nestable sharps collectors, multiuse one-piece sharps collectors, and phlebotomy sharps collectors. Capacities span from compact 1 qt and 1.5 qt phlebotomy units through to large 19 gal collectors, supporting both point-of-use disposal and high-volume waste collection.
Common Design Features
Across many models, BD collectors include features that support everyday clinical use and safer handling. These may include visible fill levels, transport handles, temporary and final closure systems, tamper-resistant locking mechanisms, and clear tops on selected designs. Depending on the model, opening and lid styles can include counterbalanced hands-free doors, hinge caps, needle ports, petal openings, hinge tops, slide tops, and dual-opening lids. Phlebotomy variants include built-in needle removal ports for blood collection settings.
Specialized Variants
Selected pharmaceutical, chemotherapy, and hazardous waste collectors may incorporate gaskets and absorbent material to help control leakage. PGII collectors are designed to meet DOT Packaging Group II requirements for medical waste disposal and are positioned as a collect, seal, and ship solution. These models feature an attached hinge lid, duo-port temporary closure, hermetic permanent sealing, and a 16-point perimeter locking system.
Sustainability and Accessories
Standard and Recykleen variants are available within the range, with recycled content varying by product line. RCRA hazardous waste collectors are described as using at least 70% recycled plastic. Depending on size and model, optional accessories can include trolleys, locking cabinets, wall brackets, and stabilizers.
