The Medica Sydney School 01/01 (Flat) is a children’s closed-toe orthopaedic school sandal designed for everyday school wear where added stability is needed. Part of the Medica AFO Alternative range, it offers structured support for the lower leg, ankle, and foot, making it suitable for children who require more guidance than standard ankle-height footwear can provide, but less rigidity than a full ankle-foot orthosis.

Built in a flat version, this style features a fixed, non-removable leather innersole intended for use with orthotics. The design combines support and practical wearability, with a lightweight construction and mid-range sole flexibility to help maintain comfort during daily movement.

Support Features

Key structural elements are designed to assist alignment, stability, and gait control. An extended-height stiffener with a reinforced upper helps support the lower leg, while the high heel counter improves rearfoot stability. A Thomas heel is included to encourage better alignment and controlled walking mechanics. The closed toe box adds protection in busy school and playground environments.

Materials and Fit

The upper is made from real leather with a protective waxed coating, paired with a real leather lining and leather innersole. The sole is made from thermoplastic rubber (TPR), providing durability and grip for regular use. Four Velcro straps allow adjustable fastening, and one pair of Velcro pads is included to help fine-tune fit.

This model is available in EU sizes 20 to 36 in a standard width. Approximate height increases with size, from 11.4 cm in EU 20 to 17.4 cm in EU 35.

This sandal may be appropriate for children with mildly increased muscle tone, moderate low muscle tone or hypermobility, foot and ankle alignment concerns, and motor coordination or balance difficulties.
