Description
Schulke MICROSHIELD 5 Chlorhexidine Concentrate is a concentrated topical antiseptic solution supplied in a 5 L pack for clinical preparation use. It contains chlorhexidine gluconate 5% w/v, equivalent to chlorhexidine 28.1 g/L. This product is intended to be diluted before application and used for pre-operative and post-operative skin preparation, as well as umbilical cord disinfection.
Intended Use
When prepared as directed, the diluted solution is used as a topical antiseptic on the skin. Its validated applications include:

Preparation Directions
This concentrate must be diluted before use. The stated preparation method is:
- Add 100 mL of concentrate to 150 mL distilled water
- Make up to 1 L with 96% ethanol
- Apply the diluted solution with a swab for 2 minutes
- Allow the area to dry after application
- Prepare fresh before use and discard any remaining solution after use

Precautions
For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes. This product should not be used for ophthalmic, bladder, or peritoneal applications, or for surgeon's dip bowl applications. It should also be kept away from the brain, meninges, middle ear, and equipment associated with spinal injection procedures. Do not mix with detergents or other chemicals, except ethanol when preparing the diluted solution as directed.
