Description
Terumo Syringes are a range of sterile, disposable, single-use hypodermic syringes designed for the manual injection, withdrawal, or aspiration of fluids. This range commonly includes needle-free versions, although some configurations may also be supplied with needles depending on the variant and market.
Constructed as a 3-part piston syringe, the design typically combines an ultra-clear polypropylene barrel, a polypropylene plunger, and a gasketed plunger system for controlled movement. The gasket material may vary by model and can include thermoplastic elastomer or polyisoprene rubber. Silicone lubrication is used to support smooth plunger travel and consistent handling during use.
Key Features
- Transparent or ultra-clear barrel for easy fluid visualisation
- Bold, readable graduations to support accurate measurement
- Finger grips for stable handling during filling and administration
- Firm end-stop or plunger stopper to help prevent accidental plunger withdrawal
- PVC-free and not made with natural rubber latex
Available Configurations
Terumo Syringes are available in multiple tip styles to suit different clinical applications, including luer slip, luer lock, eccentric luer or slip, and catheter tip formats. Commonly reported capacities include 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 30, and 60 mL, with some variants also available in 2.5 mL and 50 mL sizes.
Sterility and Packaging
Each syringe is individually packed in blister or peel-blister packaging to maintain sterility until use. Products in the range are sterilized to a sterility assurance level of 10^-6. Electron-beam sterilization is frequently cited for this range, while some variants may use ethylene oxide sterilization.
Quality and Verification
Documented larger needle-free versions have been verified for leakage, plunger mobility, tip or conical fitting, gasket fit, graduation accuracy, dead space, plunger stopper strength, biocompatibility to ISO 10993-1, and sterilization validation to ISO 11137.
